A friend has chosen Mac for his new computer. He will be doing Photoshop, and some audio stuff. I know he should get a second HD for scratch if he is doing the audio stuff. He also possibly wants to do video (he asked about an RCA in on the video card).
I know I want him to go DP. and I think a SuperDrive is a good idea. So should He go 80GB or 160GB for OS/Apps and Documents.
I am going to recommend a cheap 17" CRT for cost. Also needs a scanner and printer. Unless he's going to do alot of color printing, I am thinking Laser is cheaper in the long run.

Def. get Dual Procs., and spend some cash buying aftermarket RAM to get at least 1GIG.
Go for the 80gig drive, and buy another 80+gig drive from another source w/ a great price w/ rebates (like those on dealmac.com)
Don't buy the SuperDrive from Apple as you can get them much cheaper elsewhere (check dealmac.com again)

I'm agreeing with the get the 80gb advice and buy more somewhere else. I got an extra 120gb for my dual MDD and its great. Aside from dealmac also try newegg.com (I got a cdrw from them also).

I will be telling him to get the Super from Apple reliablity is required and We can't deal with hacking iDVD to work etc.
I don't know if 80GB will be enough for OS and Apps. he will make a 20GB partition for OS and Apps and that will leave 55GB for Data.
As for rebates and stuff that doesn't happen up here in Canada, and We do not use rebate to get the price. It's $187 for the 160GB, I can knock off $37 for him.

Dude, there's nothing "Super" about it...it's strictly a Pioneer 105 drive...with Panther out, I'd get (and I already did, actually) the Pioneer 106 that supports +R/+RW burning and is fully recognized by iDVD.
Get the 80GB, buy a cheaper one elsewhere.

I checked and they aren't cheaper elsewhere in Canada. so for a hassle free setup may as well pay for the Apple one.

I second that - I have a dual 1.25 and put a Pioneer 105 in it - works no problems. I found go with the basic config and buy the xtras from other sources - if you want to save $$$'s
