Ok, I'm going to get a Seagate 80GB for my iMac. Now I need more RAM. I'd like to stick a 512 chip in there but I don't know what any of the specs mean. Last I checked, 2-2-2 was the best, with 3-2-2 being a close second (and often much cheaper). However, now I have pins and volts and stuff like "32x8" to deal with and I have no idea what to buy. Also, parity and non-parity and something about ECC. Really, I just want the best for the cheapest, like everyone else. The chips I've found on NewEgg.com are about 80 bucks. Can anyone help me decipher this business and point me to a cheap, reliable vender?

Thanks,
D

NewEgg is good but doesn't specialize in ram. OWC is good. But, IMHO, Crucial is the memory king. Not the absolute cheapest but I've never heard anything but great feedback.

This Page at Crucial lists all the memory upgrades for your machine. The very first one is for 512mb CL2 -- which is the fastest type (and costs the same as the CL3 which is listed after that). Once you start the buying process, enter BBUSERGROUP for the coupon code and you'll get an extra 5% off.

You have the exact same machine as me -- and you're doing all the same upgrades I did several months ago.

Get low density ram, 8x32. Not 64x64 or 64x4.
