Which do you have with your 1.6? I'm wondering if Apple is consistently using one or the other.

Don't know but I would recommend not getting the 1.6 G5. The only G5 worth getting is the dual. My single 1.6 G5 is quite dissapointing. It feels and gives results that are just like my 1 Ghz Tibook. No doubt about it, the dual 1.25 machine is the much better deal.

Yes, I know I could buy a PC, but why?

Apple is not consisteny using one brand. It's pretty much random along the G5 models. I think there's been Pioneer A06, Sony 10U and some reports of Toshiba(?) as well I think.
Whether 1.6GHz is worth it or not is a whole different issue, I personally don't think so but it still has the build quality of a G5.

Thx, but it's the truth. Both drives ship with the G5s.

Eug--
I tried to change the title of this thread to:
Does your 1.6ghz G5 have a Sony or Pioneer Superdrive
but it wouldn't let me change the title. Hopefully some people will be able to answer this question.

When the G5's first started shipping, the 1.6s and 1.8s had Sony drives. As the duals began to ship, people noted that they contained a Pioneer drive (as does my dual). While I have no way to verify, I suspect initially one assembly plant was building the single processor models (and was receiving Sony drives), while another plant building duals received Pioneer drives.
Now I believe it's pretty much random.
You are all free to contradict anything I've stated above (except that my dual actually does have a Pioneer DVR-106D in it.
