This started taking place this week and I have found a couple items that might be contributing to this.

My PowerMac G4 Digital Audio will boot and then flip from Apple loading screen to the backgrounds for the loading bar and login screen. However, one is blue and one is grey.

I have figured out the reason one is grey and one is blue is because one of the cards is running in 1bit color. I have searched on the forums and it seems the ATI Rage Pro is one of the cards that doesn't work in Panther because its firmware is before March 2003. But that doesn't make sense since the other card is a GeForce2 MX. Both dualhead.

However the loading bar/login box never appears. It sits there. I have don't everything from verbose mode (unable to pick anything out since the screens load pretty fast) and reinstalled Panther three times. I have "flashed" PRAM. That didn't help.

I am going to try Jaguar hoping that solves the 1bit color problem but I sincerely doubt it will solve the loading bar/login box problem since this happened before I bought Panther. I am also going to pull out the ATI Rage Pro and boot straight from the GeForce2.

Any ideas?

Have you tried each vid card by itself? A vid card that has gone bad can hang bootup.
