...if its not in the box. Is there any charge at all? I know if you bought before Oct.24 you pay the $20 fee.

If you get an in stock machine without the disks can you get full install disks or only upgrade disks?

Also, is there any limit on how old the "new" machine has to be--e.g. suppose I buy an in stock, unopened box machine from 1-2 years ago (e.g. a Quicksilver machine), from an Apple dealer, am I still eligible for free Panther?

Anyone have any experience like this yet?

I know the $20 offer only covers new systems, so buying a refurb won't do it.

I suspect that Panther won't truly be free until we know for sure that it's being preloaded on systems or included in the box; the best way to make sure is to order from Apple themselves.

I purchased a 17" Powerbook from an Apple Retail Store on Saturday, the day after Panther was released.
There was a set of Panther discs in the box, but Jaguar was preloaded on it.

I don't see why things would be any different with the G5.

Just started up my new stock dual g5. It DOES have panther preloaded. No upgrade discs.
