I have 1 gig of ram in my machine, but have been thinking about increasing to 2 gigs, possibly more. Is there a noticable difference? I'm mostly using my computer for photoshop (web based stuff), dreamweaver mx, flash, some development work, and the occasional game.

Thanks

I'd go at least 1.5 or just get 2.0ghz. I have 1 gig now in my dual gig and Photoshop has 700 megs to itself. When I get my G5 I would love to allow PS to have 1gig if not more all to itself as that's what I use 8-9 hours a day.

I'd get more if i were you.

For DreamWeaver, Flash, some games, and some development, 1 GB of RAM should be plenty. Consider more if you're using large Photoshop files, or doing serious DV editing (FCP and DVDSP, not iMovie).

With RAM as cheap as it is, I'd snap up at least 2 512MB sticks and bump it to 2GIGS. I us 2GB in my PowerMac and it was a huge improvement.

Is there some trick to installing RAM in the G5 that I'm not getting... because I have been trying to get mine to read the extra 1 gig I got it (through crucial, DDR 400 512 x 2, installed in proper slots) to be recongized by the computer but it doesn't seem to want to. The chips I noticed don't "snap" all the way into place where the latches will close all the way, but the only way I could force them in there would be with a 50 pound mallet it would seem.

Any ideas??

Obvious, perhaps silly question, but do you have the notch towards the middle of the dimm aligned with the notch in the socket?

Use a flashlight if you are unsure.

Align the sticks properly into the slot and with firm pressure, press down at each end and the stick will snap into place.
