I've seen a few old posts about it, but I thought I'd throw it out there to see what the consensus would be.

I inherited a Dual 500 (GigE) tower from a friend, and am looking to upgrade the RAM. It's got one slot left, and I'd like to get as much in there as possible.

Has anyone tried a 1 GB DIMM in a G4 of this type? I know they're more than triple the cost of a 512 MB DIMM, but if it'll work in the tower, I'd consider getting one from Crucial. I don't wanna take the hit on the credit card if it'll end up useless.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

I believe you are limited to 512MB chips on that Mac. I have never added the larger chips, but I wouldn't spend the money on them if I were you. The max RAM for those is 2GB (4x512MB)...

Hope that helps.
