I´m about to order some RAM for my relatively new Dual G5.
How much of a speed difference would there be between 1GB of RAM (total) and 1.5GB RAM?
I´m basically working with audio applications (Digital Performer, Peak, various audio processing applications etc.), so that would be the "critical point" for my investment.
Any ideas?

I'd wait untill you need it. RAM prices always drop and unless you are feeling the pinch now you should hold off. Granted later you should slap in more, as it does wonders for the resale value.

Just head on over to crucial and grab all that you need. They'll still be there if you need more later.

This question has been asked several times... the last time was by me.
I upgraded from 1 gig to 2 gigs and can't tell the difference. I have about 8-10 apps open.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. That's the most enlightening reply I've had by a considerable margin.
Everyone keeps ranting about "more RAM, more RAM, more RAM", not taking into consideration that not everyone's working with video and/or Photoshop.
Will be going for 1GB. Judging from your post it should be enough.

I have a G5 with 1GB of RAM. When I got it I figured I would upgrade when I noticed a lot of swapping. So far I have not.
On OSX there is a huge benefit going from 256MB up to as much as 640MB. Beyond that most users will see no benefit. Most users will find 1GB to be plenty for OSX and all their apps.

There is major difference is if you are using video apps. In after effects an extra 512Mb of RAM gives you an extra 15 sec of full res uncompressed video RAM preview. Other than that, 1Gb is plenty.
