If you are doing any video or graphics work, I would recommend a Hitachi HD (7200rpm). I know you can get them at mac mall, but look around elseware because some people have had problems with mac mall.

Otherwise, if you are just using your Mac for everyday things, Western Digital was having a good deal with a rebate. I just picked up a 120g 7200rpm for $80 after rebate. It works great so far. I got that at Best Buy.

Mac Hard Drives, PC Hard Drives, they're all mostly the same. Just make sure its an IDE or UltraATA drive.

No offense, but how is it that you have 1500+ posts and not know what sort of hard drive goes into a PowerMacG4? (And what's a "Mystic G4"?)

Anyway, like nate_02 said, there are no such things as "Mac hard drives". There are ATA hard drives (also called "IDE" or EIDE"), Serial ATA hard drives, and SCSI hard drives. You want an ATA hard drive.

Go to www.pricewatch.com and click where it says "Hard Drives". Then you will see a list of different types of hard drives. Click on one of the "EIDE" drives (at the storage level you are looking for). Then it will show you numerous resellers that will be happy to take your money.

www.newegg.com is your friend!!

You may find it cheaper online, but check out resellerrating.com first....

Otherwise, go to someplace like fatwallet.com and browse through the forum. alot of times they have postings for the latest hardware deals....

I second the recommendation for NewEgg. Great prices and great service.

ZipZoomFly (formerly GoogleGear) is also a great place.

Newegg all the way. 80gb Seagate drives are $72 right now. Got one not too long ago to upgrade a Gigabit G4. I'm not sure what the max hard drive size they can handle is, but I'm guessing it's 120gb.

Anyway, you'll never beat Newegg for customer service. They're great.

I bought a hard drive from NewEgg a couple of months ago (200GB WD2000JB) and the thing they sent me was a refurbished unit that sounded like a mix between a chainsaw and a jet engine. They were quick in approving the RMA and swapping it with another (new unit) but I was out a few bucks for shipping (and about 2 weeks with no HD). I can't figure out to this day why they sent me a refurbished drive...unless of course they thought they could get away with it.

Moral of story - you can get junk even from the best retailers so make sure that the stuff you get works correctly before it's too late to return it.
