I've burned a few c.d.'s on this G5 and when I go to play them on commercial cd players, (i.e. various car stereos, home systems, etc...) it's a crap shoot. Am I doing something wrong here?

Doesn't sound like you're doing anything wrong per se. Its just likely that the combination of dye on the blank cd and the commercial cd player dont like each other.
You could try another brand of blank. A friend of mine had an cd changer in his car that didnt like some brands of blank disk.
hope that helps

Yeah, depending on the age of the player and the brand and dye-type of disc you're using, it really can be a crapshoot. Gold and silver seem to work better in consumer players than the blue or green dyes in my experience. You're really just going to have to play around and see what works best unfortunately.
And no computer is too fast.

Do you mind if I ask what player that is? I have a semi-expensive player of similar vintage which does the same thing. Mine's The Tehnics DVD A-10. It was the first DVD Audio player to hit the US market and cost about $1100 when first relased. Anyway I've found that most cd players 5 years old or newer work with cdr discs and dvd players 2 years old and newer seem to be ok too.

Toshiba SD-5109. It was the first progressive player on the market.
