Hello all,

I would like to install a decent video card in my daughters' computer so her games wil play a little better. Will any PCI video card work on a PowerMac 7600? It has a Sonnet 450mhz upgrade card in it, and 308mb RAM, so I figure a cheap video card would help too. Any suggestions? Thanks. I was thinking of a Radeon 7500, but am not married to the idea.

It must be a Mac video card which, I think, leaves out any Radeon 7500. The most commonly used cards are the Radeon 7000 (for Mac) and the Radeon Mac Edition (not 7000). The second is much better (faster) than the first but is not manufactured any more so sells for a pretty good price on eBay.

All this assumes that you are running OS9. If you are running OSX then there are problems with the 7000 card which require some "hacking." The Radeon Mac Edition works automatically in OSX. Are you using the Sonnet installer?

BTW--the 7500 is made in an AGP and PCI version for Windows machines but was never made in a PCI version for the Mac.

Given the older nature of your machine, I would just go with the 7000.

www.newegg.com

search for

RADEON 7000 64M PCI

Get the $45 model.

Flash it to Mac (if you have a PC handy).

Nice card for $45. If you don't have a PC handy, Voodoo 3 2000/3000... really cheap.
