Running 10.2.8

Playing iTunes and all of a sudden the computer just shut down, no warning, the power just went off.

I've checked my power connections and everything seems fine. The fans are running so things aren't too hot.

Does anyone else have this problem? Does this sound like a hardware problem? If so what can I do about it?

weird problem but probably not unheard of by QS experts...

i guess it could be either hardware or software related. could be your Mac is protecting itself by shutting down.

HW:
- Dying PSU?
- Dead sensor for temperature

SW:
- In panther i saw a timed shutdown property in the preferences and do'nt remember seeing it in 10.2... could be?

Do you have applecare or warrantly left just in case?

I did Apple warranty repair for 2 years - and I would say 9 out of 10 times its a power supply. Try removing excess items that draw power - extra HDs are the worst. If it still keeps happening you have to get a new power supply.

Yeah, I also vote for it being a faulty power supply. That was always the classic explanation for occurrences of that nature.
