I was really looking forward to a nice price drop on the dual G4s
I can now get a 1.6GHz G5 for $1599 (w/o superdrive) or a $1599 Dual G4 (again w/o superdrive).
They have almost exactly the same configurations.
I still think I’ll get the dually as I believe that it's a superior computer than the 1.6, but a price drop would have been nice...

A lil' ebay? I just sold my dual G4/800.
I'm sure there are plenty on e-bay. You can probably get ram and HD and maybe some software as well.

I just don't feel comfortable buying used computers (cars, motorcycles also). Thanks for the suggestion tho
I was almost ready to get my first mac (G4 dually), but now having the 1.6 G5 for the same price...well it's making my decision more difficult.
The G5s look wonderful, but benchmarks like these make the G4s look very nice too.

Go with the G4. I just got one lightening fast. also supports 2 Optical Drives and 4 Hard Drives. Well worth it. Also supports Mac OS 9 natively.

Ask someone who has owned both an MDD and a G5 and find out what the diff in case feels like. Also keep in mind that... it's a G5...

Yes, the difference in the case is that it is pretty difficult to clean out the dust from the G5s holes after a while. Then consider the G4 hardware is well designed out and the G5 is pretty new and the first of its generation.

Well, MacAddict did some more general benchmarks (if I recall correctly), suggesting the 1.6 G5 was actually probably better. I'd get the G5 (design is gorgeous, and my Dual G5 is a silent as my cube).
But then again, getting the Dual 1.8 is clearly best. A real amount more, but that ~$600 adds 1-2 years to the computers life. That G4 is going to feel dated before the end of 2004.
I was worried about dust, but it's not like this thing suck airs at some great rate ... most fans are off most of the time. I've not heard anyone who's actually experienced a dust problem in the G5.
