Looking at getting a G5 in a few months and I was wondering if I could take my pioneer DVR-05 and a couple of WD drives from my G4 and put them in the G5. Would save me a few quid for more RAM etc...

Pioneer 105 - probably. I've read that some people have had problems with mounting the superdrives using the gaskets that come with the combo drives since they aren't exactly the same size.

Hard drives - not unless they are SATA drives. There are IDE to SATA converters but frankly those look to be a pain in the ass to fit into the G5 case.

Also, this stuff has been covered in numerous other posts. Try doing a search first.

The drive should electronically work fine. I got a DVD-RAM drive with my G4, sold it a few months later, got a Pioneer DVR-103/A03 2x drive, then put that in my PC even further down the road, then bought a DVR-105/A05 4x for my Mac.

No problems with any of it.
