Firstly I HAVE looked at all the forums I could find relating to this and none cover it specifically.

I have a 17" G4 iMac complete with its Pioneer DVD-RW superdrive. As of this evening it won't mount ANY CD or DVD. Nor will it eject them (merey spins a bit every now and again). It's no problem ejecting the disks when restarting with the mouse button held and, more strangely, will start up from the installer DVD if I hold down 'c' at startup. This would indicate that the hardware is fine. I've tried many different CDs in it tonight, unplugged it for a bit, even made it dinner but still nothing.

Baffled. Any clues? I'll be banging my head off a door if anyone needs me.

Try:

1) Repair permissions
2) run fsck
3) Zap PRAM
4) Reset Open Firmware
Not compatible with Windows

Much appreciated.

I repaired the permissions, turned it off for the night and unplugged it and now it's me best bleedin' mate again. Fair play. And go on the Wallabies on Sat.
