There's an Apple support document that says "be sure to remove the 4 plastic strips from inside the door of your G5." However, it doesn't say why this would matter, it isn't mentioned in the manual, and I can't discern any reason why they would interfere with the functioning of the machine - they don't cover any openings or anything. I figure if they protect the machine in transit, why not leave them on for when I eventually sell it?

My guess is that Apple wants you to remove them so that they don't come off and get caught up in the machinery or something, but that's just a guess. Anyone?

My guess (just a guess) is that as time goes on, those strips could come loose like an old bandage. The G5 case is certainly designed to circulate air internally, and loose items like tape in a warm environment would not be good.

This sounds like nothing but removing those strips made my G5 faster. Before the strips I would get about 100 FPS using a flash benchmark. After removing the strips I got around 125 FPS. In both these settings I have the energy saver set to automatic. I set the setting to reduced and I returned to 100 FPS. The only thing I could think was that the strips somehow caused the machine to run in a reduced setting. Sounds crazy but it can have an impact.
Yes, I know I could buy a PC, but why?

That's good to hear, but after examining the tape I can't understand what effect it would have on the machine's operation. I'm not second-guessing you, I'd just like to satisfy my curiosity and get an explanation as to why this would happen. Weird.

No please, do second guess me. If it was not true I would not believe it myself!
