if i have the apple pro speakers hooked up to the speaker jack on my flat pannel imac and decide to also add a set of usb based speakers will one of the speaker sets cancel the sound out and cut the other one off. i remember my girlfreind tried to have 2 sets of speakers hooked up to her g3 imac and it only allowed the sound to come out of one. i just want to make sure before i invest in an additonal speaker set.

I plug in my Harmon-Karmon JBL Creatures (line-out, not USB) and they immediately cutoff the Mac speakers.

But those circuits are right next to each other in the case, easy matter to do that. USB is another matter.

I have read where both work (Mac speakers & USB speakers), however, the speaker controls do not control the USB speakers.

So you cannot use the keyboard to mute them, for example.

Depends on the OS. Jaguar MIGHT have allowed it, not sure about panther but I know 10.1 did.
Aloha
