Upgrading yet again in next few months (probably right after MacWorld).

So with the widescreen 17" and 20" displays, are games in widescreen resolution also.

I guess it depends on if the game has that setting built-in. Do mac games of late have patches to download to take advantage of the new resolutions?

For example does Quake 3, Return to Wolfenstein, Warcraft 3 run full screen?

If not, I would presume that there's big black bars on the left and right to compensate for the fact they run in 1024x768.

I work all day on PCs and use my Mac at home for only music recording & games. If the games aren't full screen, what's the point of having extra resolution space (besides bigger app windows when multi-tasking)?

Any users of the 17" iMac or the widesreen cinema displays, let me know.

Thanks!

I have the 17" iMac. Wolfenstein doesn't take advantage of the widescreen so it does have the bars on the sides. If there is a patch I'm unaware of it. If so, that would be cool.

All quake3 based games (wolfenstein, etc) work simply by hitting the tilda key (~) and typing in the following:

/r_mode -1
/r_customwidth 1600
/r_customheight 1024
/vid_reset

In my case that would fit a 22" cinema.. you adjust 1024 and 1600 by what you use, for example customwidth 800 and customheight 600 for 800x600.

if typing /vid_reset doesn't reset the game try /vid_restart.. at the moment I can't remember exactly which one it is.

I think you can do this with unreal and whatnot too but I don't remember the code.

Sweet I will try it with Wolfenstein when I get a chance.
