[Riddler]

Hi,

I sold an iMac to this guy like 5 years ago when I worked part time as an Apple Demo person and being a kind soul have helped him with any problems he's had with it. I get like one call a year.

Well he called me tonight, turns out the power plug got pulled from it and then plugged straight back in whilst it was running. All he's seeing is the power button turning orange and not much else, no screen, nada.

I can't find the service manual for the original iMac anywhere and was hoping someone who has it would care to diagnose??

I've had similar problems with a much much older Performa.

they have just about every mac manual.
Other than that, the sudden plugging back in may have caused a power surge in the computer (although extremely unlikely) and blown a fuse, or worse, the CRT. Other than that, the unit that takes in the power may be dead (that was the problem with my old Performa) and will need replacing. If that fails, it could just simply be something to do with the PRAM battery (also solved a similar problem on that faitful Performa!)

Thanks for the manual link. It took a few tries, but I VERY SLOWLY got the manual for my 17" iMac. It gave me a few ideas for things I can try at home tonight.
