Is it possible to upgrade from OS 8.6 to OS 9.2 using the OS X 10.2 or 10.1 software discs?

If so, any pitfalls/opportunities to be aware?

The computer is an iMac 350 (slot load). Don't want to add OSX, but would like 9.2 on it.

Thanks in advance...

OS X 10.1 and 10.2 also include full versions of OS 9 that you can use to upgrade from 8.6. (You don't need to upgrade to OS X to do this.)

The only pitfalls would be if you run older programs that are not compatible with OS 8.6. You may want to partition your drive so that you can choose to boot into either 8.6 or 9.2.

The 10.2 CDs failed to include the OS9 disc. You had to send off a proof-of-purchase coupon plus US$20 to Apple Software Fulfillment, and they would send an OS 9.2.1 CD to you.

Also, you can't use a 9.2 CD to update any system installation older than 9.1; you will have to perform a clean install instead, and then migrate any system preferences you want to keep to the new system folder.

9 wasn't free, but 9.1 and 9.2 were free upgrades, right? i remember they released 9.2 only for the g4s shipping at the time, and like 2 months later they gave it as a free download off software update.
