Hi -

My girlfriend has a iMac G3 DV Edition, with the stock HD. The HD has 3 partitions, one with Classic installed, one with OSX 10.0, and the other with just files. She usually boots into Classic, but the other day that partition failed to mount. She is now able to only boot into OSX 10.0. I am a recent switcher (15" AlBook with zero problems), I have no idea where to begin troubleshooting her problem. I have a couple of questions that I would really appreciate some help on...

1) Is there a way to recover the data on the Classic drive? Just getting the drive remounted and the computer back to normal would be great. But at this point, I would also like to try to upgrade her to Panther...

2) If I get a copy of Panther will it run on this machine, does anyone have any experience?

3) I would rather not install Panther over the existing 10.0, because if it fails, then the computer won't have any OS. Even is the data on the Classic partition is not accessible, can I remount the drive to install Panther onto it?

I have been a long time MacNN lurker, reading these boards helped me make my decision to switch. It seems everyone here is quite helpful. So thanks in advance for any help that anyone can provide with this problem.

Chris

In system 10.0 go to
system preferences >
Then Startup Disk>
(then it will scan for existing OS's)
You should be able to select the Hard Drive that has 9.x.x on it.

I have the same imac.

I'm running panther fine.
