I've had my dual G4 for over a year, and I'm very happy with it, but I *would* like a bigger HD and Final Cut.

Reasons to upgrade:

Bigger HD
Quieter machine (big reason for me!)
Final Cut Express for $99
Faster machine (x2 ??)
Better Video Card

Reasons not to upgrade:

$2500 I don't need to spend
Can't use VPC (Which I actually do)
New technology could be tweaky with some software/hardware

Can everyone weigh in? I'm really torn. If I don't upgrade, it means spending $500 on new HD/Video editing software anyway, and then I won't want to upgrade for another year or so... anyway, I'd love to hear first hand accounts of G5 usage.

I use Adobe/Macromedia products regularly, all the iSoftware, although I REALLY need to get a real video program. iMovie just doensn't cut it.

Also, I would like to start doing more audio, so the money I don't spend on a new machine could go towards midi equip/software.

Yikes, this computer thing is a slippery slope.

I'd wait. The pros don't seem to outweigh the cons, especially if you use VPC extensively. I'd save the $2000 and use it to buy an even faster G5 when they're released in a year or so. Doesn't sound like you've maximized your investement in the G4 yet...
