Hello,

There appears to be an empty slot on the mother board for plugging in a second ata hard drive. This would be a total of 3 ata devices plugged in including the cd-rom.

Is this the case or am I being stupid?

I know there is some reason stopping disks over 120gb from working, but can I have two 120's without buying a controller card?

Many thanks.

The Beige G3s had only two ATA connectors. The third connector is probably the internal SCSI connector.

Some Beige G3s will support ATA drives in master and slave configurations (specifically, those with the Rev. B and C ROMs). However, if you want one drive per ATA channel, you'll have to get a PCI card.
