I have a Dual Ghz MDD running Panther. When I press the power button, the button itself lights up but the computer does nothing. Everything worked fine yesterday when I used it and shutdown but now nothing. I didn't install anything new either. Please help me.
Thanks,
Josh

I used to have the machine. It happened to me after a power surge.
Here is what to try:
Turn everything off and unhook EVERY cable from the Power Mac, including the power.
Open it up.
The part that lays opens up and lays down is the motherboard and Ram, etc. and here is where the PMU (Power Manager Unit) reset button is. It is a little red button that you press. Actually, I think there is a PDF you can download from the Apple support site that actually shows this.
Plug the power back in and the monitor, and try again. It should work. You will probably have to reset your clock.
Good luck.

Thanks for the suggestion. However, I can't find the PMU button. Is it under the cooling fans.

Ok, I found the PMU switch and it is working so far. Thank you very much. Once again MacNN boards come through in the clutch.

When it happened to my Power Mac, it was during a storm and my cheap "surge protector" didn't!
So the moral is get a good surge protector.

I think my surge protector is decent, maybe not. But I think the problem was that I have an electric heater plugged in on the same side of the room and maybe when the heater starting drawing large amounts of power it did something.
Thanks again for the solution. It saved me a trip to the apple store for a simple button press solution.
