I Just upgraded to a G5 and had to switch from an internal CDRW to a external. When I had the second drive in my G4 I was able to press option + eject to open / close my second drive. Is there a way to get this to work with my Lacie 52x32x52 CDRW? Thanks

I feel like that should work . . . is the eject menu in the menu bar? Maybe apple found a way to have it not be displayed on G5's since they only hold one internal drive. I hope not b/c that would be dumb. Anyway if the menu is there I would expect option eject to work (or on my logitech its option f12).

No, it's not you. It's the OS.

Without some scripting you can't get opt-eject to eject the external FW drive. It sucks, I know.

Take a look in /system/library/core services/menu extras. drag eject.menu to the menu bar with the others. and see what that get's you.
to remove it, command drag it off the bar.
