hey, my friend really wants to switch and get a g5, but the ONLY thing, and i mean ONLY thing thats bothering him, is that he will be unable to play star wars galaxies, and his 5900 will go to waste. he and i were wondering if the G5 1.8 and the 2.0 accept the card (card is AGP 8x, just like those g5 models). anyone know anything?

The 5900 has Macintosh support listed. I guess all we're waiting for is some brave soul to pop it into his G5...

If it wroks, I'd get one in a heartbeat for my 2Ghz G5...I'm tired of ATI cards...

nvidia chips have architectural support for the Macintosh, however that doesn't mean you can pop a PC FX5900 in to a Mac and expect it to work.

Until some company begins developing aftermarket nvidia-based cards for Macs (right now, the only source of nvidia-based cards is Apple itself), you're stuck with ATI for retail cards. Or, occasionally someone has success flashing a PC card with Mac-specific firmware. I expect this to be essentially impossible at the moment for the FX5900, since there is no source for the firmware.... Perhaps sitting in a lab in Cupertino somewhere...

If your friend wants to switch to the Macintosh platform but not let his games/game hardware go to waste, let him keep the PC for games not available on the Mac, and use the Mac for everything else. He wouldn't be the first person to do that

I don't think it would fit, given the huge fan the thing has.
