I have the dual 2ghz G5 w/ optical ins and outs.

I have a mackie mixer and am using Digital Performer 4.1.1

Questions;

How do I get audio in and out from an analog mixer to optical ins/outs on G5? Interface? What type of interface? Recommendations?

I'm currently looking at the Alesis; AI-4 8-Channel AES/EBU to ADAT Optical Digital Audio Interface. Is this correct hardware? Is there a problem using ADAT format? I'm assuming this is the standard conversion from analog to digital, but I'm just checking.

Are there any limitations, problems, or latency involved in sending/receiving audio this way?

The 1/8" cords I'm using going to G5 1/8" audio in/out ports on the back of my G5 are weighted and finicky. I sometimes have to reach back there and secure the cords. I'd like to simply use the optical ports on G5 not only to avoid the above, but also to hinder computer noises, etc...from going to recording. Please help!
