Using JBL Creature speakers with the G5

A friend just called me, he's trying to use his JBL Creature Speakers with his G5.
He told me he plugged them in to the analog audio in port on the back of the G5 but they're not showing up under his sound selection when he goes into sound under system preferences.
Does he have them plugged into the correct port?
