It might fit, the most likely conflicts would be with the heat sink running into other hardware when the door closes.

However, I believe the 466 uses a 133 MHz bus. If so, the dual 450 CPU from the 100 MHz Sawtooth bus would try to operate as a dual 600 MHz card, and would most likely not run at that speed. You need to reset the bus clock multiplier(s) on the CPU card, from 4.5x to either dual 400 (3x multiplier) or dual 466 (3.5 multiplier).

You might be able to make dual 533

Let us know how it goes.
Be happy.

Be careful before trying this mod. Apple has moved the CPU card around several times on the G4 towers, and changed the card shape a bit. Make sure the card will fit before doing a trade.

Modifying the heat sink if needed would consist of cutting/breaking off some fins as required to allow the door to close. Obviously, you can only remove so much of the heat sink before you risk overheating.

Changing the bus multiplier involves fine solder work. You need to remove/move/add some very small resistors that are soldered onto the CPU card. Dual 400 will work, dual 466 will probably work. Dual 533 would almost certainly not work, the early G4 CPUs did not operate properly above 500 MHz.

While this looked like a simple PowerMac question, it actually requires some modding. The guys in the modding forum will have more info on this sort of thing.

Why not just get an aftermarket processor instead?
