My server is currently a 9500 clone running 10.2 Server installed using XPostFacto. It has a 300 Mhz G3 upgrade and 256 MB of RAM. I want to switch my server to my Blue and White G3, same mount of ram, and I'd take the processor with me. So all I'd really need to do is swap the drive. My question is that, will a previous XPostFacto drive, with whatever custom stuff XPF does to an install, boot a regular supported Power Mac?
Thanks
Oh yeah the 9500's drive is an IDE running off a PCI card so don't worry about that either.

At least in pre X days a installed OS only supported the hardware it was installed on. I would not expect the hacked X to be able to boot other hardware. Even if it would I would not trust it to run as a server.

except that the 9500 case is a huge PITA to take apart, this is probably best and most easily answered by trying. nothing really needs to be reconfigured. just swap the drives (provided you are swapping a master for a master--otherwise you'll have to move some jumpers)
drboar is right about pre-X installations being hardware savvy. but, i have a 10.3 installation on my iPod that boots everything from my b/w G3 400 to my upgraded 1.2ghz cube to a 12" pb and a 12" ibook. so, i believe that limitation is a thing of the past.

For some reason, drives formatted on a PCI card may not mount when connected to a motherboard IDE connector.
I recommend you move the IDE card over as well, if you want to ensure that everything works.

Everything booted right up and worked fine. I know in general all OS X installations are swappable, not machine specific like OS 9, but I didn't know what XPostFacto actually did and so I wasn't sure what would happen in this situation. I do have one last problem though, after my new IP propagated through all my domain name, my mail doesn't work. The server rejects all my passwords, and mail to my email addresses get instantly bounced back due to a "routing cycle". Any ideas, let me know...
