Yes, after three weeks S.M.A.R.T. reported a failure, so I backup all to the external LaCie FW400. The failure appened when using iMovie to export a 90 min. movie to a Quicktime movie. When switching iMovie to background i notice a chocking/frying sound from the drive and... bye bye. It appears on the desktop but formatting, copying etc fails or takes forever. Before SMART informed me of the failure I reformatted the entire drive, zeroing it. The process run for several hours. Do you think that having used the drive while demaged could have demaged the motherboard or SATA controller?

As for the 20" cinema display before, the drive will be replaced shortly. Thanks to Apple Care, they offered me great support.

No, don't worry.

thoroughly used up, worn out, leaking oil, shouting GERONIMO!"
