G4 Crashes when blank CD inserted? Help!

I've put a new Samsung CD-RW drive in my G4 466 which is running OS X 10.1.4 Server. (Old I know, can't afford the upgrade...) It will read CDs fine, but when you put a blank CD in, the whole system freezes! Apples system profiler states that disk burning is supported with this drive. Any Ideas? Please!!!!
