I wonder how this would affect cooling. Heat just rose out of the vents at the top of the cube, but the cube is turned on it's front this mod, so it doesn't seem like it would vent well. (unless of course there was a fan somewhere that I missed).

At first I thought the result was the first image and figured it was a joke post. Thankfully I clicked the link for the last page and saw the beautiful mod. Wow, it looks really good! Professional and such.

I don't get what you don't get. It's a G4 Cube made to look like a G5. That's it.

Holy god that is incredible.
If Apple were to re-introduce the Cube, that is how I would want it to look.
And... Why are the Japense so much better than us at computer modding?

Haha... man, those japanese people are crazy.
That guy is either crazy or brilliant. There is a fine line between being crazy and being brilliant right?

The fact that none of it is in English and it could be made out of cardboard for all I know.

You're right, it's not in English (how dare they!). And that's ABS plastic.

Not my cup of tea. I rather put the original G4 Cube on my desk rather than this G5-look alike thing.

Questions for anyone with a clue for how he did this:
1. What kind of glue would he have used to fix the resin pieces together?
2. How did he machine the front, with all the grill and USB pieces? I see the pictures, I read the translation, I just don't know what he did!
3. How did he bend the handle pieces, and did he build them up with 2 layers of resin board? How well do you think they'll support the weight?
4. How did he do the front button? That looks really professional. Is it easy to wire a power button for the cube that glows, using the original touch button wiring?

I think its a great mod and liked the added touch of the USB hub. Now if they could connect two of them together so you have one on each side of your monitor that would be a nice dual "G5" setup.

My opinion is that it's a great mod regardless of whether you like how it looks or get it. The guy(s) spent a great deal of time and effort to make what is a very convincing G5-looking cube. Good job in my opinion despite the fact that i'd rather have a real G5 in all it's tall glory...

Sorry, the original G4 Cube looks much better than this mod. That was a beautiful case. This mod just looks weird. The giant handles really clash with the shrunken G5 case IMHO.

I think it looks really cool and if Apple did introduce a Cube again, that would make a perfect replacement.

I agree the G4 Cube is an all-time classic, but I posted this mod as it was so well done. I've seen so many pathetic attempts it was nice to see someone take some care.

That is one of the finest case mods I've seen (inc tower). It's more of a case conversion than a mod given all the effort that went into the design. WOW!!!
Maneki: I agree, it could overheat without a fan. All G4 Cubes have an internal fan bracket at the bottom of the core to allow a standard 80mm x 15mm fan. And since the fan would be internal, it wouldn't take away from the beautiful design of this case either I wish I could see this thing in person - amazing!

It looks cool, but being some sort of resin material, it doesn't seem to sturdy, well as sturdy as metal would be. The end result then is its only for looks. the orginal cube design was solid and had looks, the G5 is solid and has looks.
If someone fabricated this design in metal, I'd be all over it like scum on a pond.
