Why do you need an ATA66 drive as opposed to an ATA100 drive?

An ATA100 drive works fine on an ATA66 controller...

Given that ATA is downwards compatible, any ATA133 or ATA100 drive will work with any ATA66, ATA33 or even old PIO4 controller (and of course also vice versa)
I really wouldn't know why it shouldn't work.

Like D'Espice said, ATA100/133 drives are backwards compatible with the older standards, which means that an ATA100 drive will work on a ATA66 bus.
I have a ATA100 Seagate Barracuda IV in my Cube (the Cube has anATA66 bus). It works perfectly fine.
The only issue is that you won't be able to use any drives larger than 137GB (rather, you can use them, but the ATA66 controller will only be able to "see" 137GB). A 120 GB drive would be your best bet. You can get a 120GB ATA100 drive at any internet retailer. I recommend newegg.com (you can get a Hitachi 120GB drive for $87, free shipping).

Run by www.dealmac.com
They've been running some hard drives deals over the past few days (check the storage section). If you don't mind working with rebates, you can get a 160GB hard drive for $80 or so. It's from various places, Best Buy, Circuit City, CompUSA etc.
Like everyone said, any IDE hard drive will due, ATA 133/100/66 etc.
