I have one of the mirror door G4's and the Radeon 9000 in it is getting a little dated. The 9800 is a bit too much to spend on now, but I see on ebay some people are auctioning Radeon 9600's from G5's. Any reason why this wouldn't work? My only concern is ATI's site proudly markets it as the "Radeon 9600 Pro/ Power Mac G5 Edition" and I hope that doesn't mean "Not for G4 Edition"

I'm afraid so because AFAIK, the PowerMac G5's ADC connector is not where it used to be.
That means that a Radeon 9600 for PowerMac G5's ADC port will not work in a G4 and vice versa. Am not sure whether this card will work at all anyway.

From what ATI has told me, it will work with a Mac with a 4X AGP slot.

I just happen to be selling mine too. PM me if you're interested.

I was actually intrested in the same thing for my MDD Dual 867. But, from what Ive read the slots are different. The 9600 uses AGP Pro, while the previous powermacs only have std. AGP slots. With that in mind, the 9600 wouldnt work in older macs.

too bad.

i wish ATI released a mid end card so that i can replace my 9000.

My ATI Raedon 8500 128mb card has specs better than the 9000. Try one of them.

Yeah, but the 8500 isnt significantly faster than the 9000. It would really be worth the time, imo.

Bimmerphile, that was a sweet find, there may yet be hope
