I was on the Apple website and noticed that the price was $2,499 for the dual 1.8 today.

Wasn't this $2,599 last week?

I think it did drop $100 a week or more ago... If speedbumped G5s are announded at MWSF, then it will drop more.

If you're thinking about buying, I'd wait. It's too close to a speed bump.

I think it's been $2499 since it was introduced. The original single 1.8 was $2599.

Quote from news release on November 18, 2003

Apple on Tuesday announced a new dual-processor Power Mac G5 operating at 1.8GHz. The new dual-processor system replaces the single-processor 1.8GHz G5 previously available, and costs US$2,499 -- only $100 more than the 1.8GHz system it replaces.

Thanks. So the price did change $100 upon the introduction of the dual, but in the opposite direction from what I remembered.

The latest info (rumor) says that they are quite certain that the base PowerMac will be a single 2.0 at the same price as the current 1.6 with a dual 2.2ghz at the price of the current 1.8. Quite amazing if true.

IIRC, the single 1.8 was $2399 while the DP1.8 is $2499. No drops.
Be happy.
