I just got my new G5 in, and it seems to be almost perfect. My question is when I take off the case and the air deflector is the computer supposed to freeze? Also, I heard that 10.3.2 slowed the G5s down significantly so I have not yet upgraded. Should I install it, I currently have 10.3?

I'd wait for a while on 10.3.2. Hopefully Apple will put out a patch fairly soon that will fix a few problems. Its a lot easier to live will any slight disadvantages of 10.3.1 (which really is outsantding anyway) than have to reformat and reload 10.3 and 10.3.1 if you don't like 10.3.2.

Your machine should not crash if you remove the side panel, and air deflector when your machine is on, but neither should you do this either.
Myabe if your doing something CPU intensive it will, as the CPU is automatically throttled back when the air deflector is removed (so the CPU/S don't fry).

Did you take off the tape from the insides of the door?

The duals are great. Even with the stock 512 mb RAM this thing flies, I am very impressed. I would wait until after Macworld to but if you can.

I am not doing anything CPU intensive. It freezes when all I have open is finder. I can not move the mouse or even turn on caps lock on my keyboard. I don't plan on leaving it off I just wanted to hear how loud the fans get. The fans slowed down when I put the air deflector back on. Until I waited a minute or two and it completely froze, then they turned all the way up.

10.3.1 is no longer in software update, just 10.3.2.

Since this is a thread regarding the dual 1.8, I have a quick question. How quiet are the dual 1.8? (My eMac, which I love, is a lot louder than I expected it to be.)

i used to have an emac - my new g5 1.8dp makes about half the noise. the fan on the BTO 9800 graphics card is notoriously noisy though - so i replaced it.
