I am a web ui designer turned back on by my days of digital video editting in college. We used Adobe Premiere back in the day (3-4 years ago - when FCP was in 1.0). I have in my arsenal a PowerMac DA G4 733Mhz with 1.5Gb ram and a 80Gb HD and 30Gb HD.

My debate is whether to upgrade with an upgrade package to a dual 1.6 (I have to research if that is the latest) or if I should go G5. I know MWSF is tomorrow and I figure this would be a decent time to get bang for the buck although I don't know if a G5 is entirely affordable. With my VW employee discount I can price out a dual 1.8 at $3,195.00 free shipping. Hmm, quite a bit more than an upgrade card.

Thoughts?

Dual is the way.

If you can't get a dual G5. Wait a little longer.

FWIW, I don't think new G5's will be announced this week.

PS dual G5 for $2500 is the best buy right now.

Definitely wait until the Stevenote tomorrow. There may be a price drop, a speed increase, both, or neither. Who knows ... but it's only 16 hours to go.

I'd replace your system. If you don't have the money now, wait a little. I absolutely agree, get the Dual 1.8, by far the best bang for the buck.
