I recently picked up a GigE barebones system (logic board, case, power supply, optical drive) at a surplus auction, untested. After adding in a good CPU, RAM, and video card, I tried to power it up. The power button LED comes on when pressed, but no fans, no startup chime, nothing. I tested the battery, which was okay, reset the PMU, removed and added back components, but nothing.

At this point, I can't be sure if it's the logic board or power supply...any suggestions on how to proceed? I don't currently have any other GigE's so I can't swap parts out and test them. Thanks.

Sounds like a bad CPU to me.

The LED will stay on as long as the button's pressed, but then goes off as soon as you release it. This happened also when no CPU was installed, so I'm not sure it's due to the CPU.

My Graphite G4 did that when I had bad RAM installed. My suggestion is to reseed any cards you have, the CPU, and try booting with RAM you KNOW is good.

Unfortunately, the plot thickens. I removed everything, leaving just the logic board and power supply in the case, and had the same problem. I've removed/reinstalled individual components several times now, without any change. I guess I may need to start looking for another logic board
