i just bought a new g5 and from the start it did not display colors correctly. after spending some time creating a color profile and adjusting the on screen display settings; updating the osx software, firmware, inspecting the cables, ect.... turns out, the blue channel was inoperative. i called the mac store. they suggested it was the vga adapter so i had them test it. now i have to bring it in so they can look at it and they'll probably have to replace the graphics card.
i still like my machine, but i hate dealing with customer service reps, and waiting for my machine to get fixed. it shouldn't have even been shipped if it wasn't working properly.
i'm tempted to just get my money back or get an exchange. i think i was sold a lemon. i'm still determined to switch to mac but maybe a machine with a better reputation is what i need - like a g4.

Well the video card really has nothing to do with the fact it was a G5. IF the G4 came with the same card, you could still have had the same problem.

really hate to tell ya. DOA stuff happens, even if it was stress tested at the factory. I'm the IT guy at a library and we just swaped out our hardware. So far we had one DOA computer, 2 hard drives die in the first week, and 1 bad stick of ram. Not really bad for 150 or so machines I'd say.

When I worked at another large company we had HORID DOA and dying parts with the IBM laptops we where getting! I'd get 2-3 back a WEEK from the field, less than 1 month old.

But dude.. chill it happens.. it'll be fixed soon enough. Actually I've had nothing but great luck with Apple fixing stuff.. HP is ok.. but they seem to take for ever getting the parts to the local tech.

i checked to make sure the card was properly seated, that didn't solve the problem. looks like i'll need to take it back. it's just disappointing....i'll be patient. after a while, that yellow-green tint starts to look normal - and it gave me a headache.

otherwise, i like the way os x looked, can't wait to explore it some more.

it was the blue channel in the graphics card. i'm happy to say apple replaced it immeadiately.

i haven't seen similar complaints about the card in the 1.8ghz g5, but i read a couple of posts where certain applications caused the screen to turn green....maybe it is related?

anyhoo....i'm happy now.
