Hi all, My question is that I already have a 12" AL Pb and am about to purchase a 17" Imac, they will both be on a network (one wirelessly). What is the best way to have them connected to eachother at all times, giving me free reign of the files on the imac from my living room or the powerbook files from my imac? Any advice will help, I know this may be a newbie question but this is my first time to own both a Mac laptop and desktop in the same house, any advice or help would be appreciated, thanks!

Assuming you have set the network (airport/wireless router) up, You should turn file sharing on in the control panels of both machines.
Then the public dropboxes of each machine should be visable in the network browser.
Finder "connect too..." click Browse button.
You can adjust the privs of the drop boxes (and other folders) in the Get info...
But instead of doing all this, I would suggest getting Apple remote desktop. Its brilliant for local networks and lets you take total control (install software remotely etc) of any another machine.

The BEST way is to connect via firewire, as in "Firewire Target Disk" mode.
Assuming you have a firewire cable (you can get them at any Apple Store or CompUSA) just plug the two Macs together, shut one down, start it up, and after the startup tone, hold down the T key until you see the Firewire logo dancing across the screen.
That Mac's hard disk icon should now be accessible on the other Mac, the one you did no shut down.
The great thing about this is you don't need to mess around with all those settings in Network Prefs, because this bypasses all that.
And this way you are transferring stuff very fast. When you are done, shut down the Mac with the Firewire logo, unplug the cable from both Macs, and you are finished!
