G5 and VGA Monitor Issues

I have a 17 inch VGA studio display hooked up to my G5 Radeon 9600 via the converter and often it won't be recognized when I turn on the G5 and it's becoming more and more frequent that I'll have to manually restart the machine to get the monitor's picture showing. Anybody have similar experiences or any ideas?
