i have a giga/ether G4 400mhz powermac, and i found a G4 800mhz cpu and heatsink that i would like to upgrade to, but the card looks slightly different and i was wondering if anyone knows for sure that this upgrade will work.

i believe the 800mhz cpu is from quicksilver model, but not sure completely.

oh and here is an image of the 800mhz cpu.

as ever,
sonny

The QS CPUs have a 133 MHz bus, while the GigE's have 100 MHz, so it won't work as-is. However, if you don't mind messing with a soldering iron, you can do it. Check xlr8, they had some info on the jumper settings, I think.

I thought the jumpers were on the CPU card. At best, it would run at 600MHz. But I don't know if it would even work.

They are, but they're not jumpers in the conventional sense. You need to solder a few resistors to change the settings.

your also going to have to supply 12 volts to one of those screw holes for it to work. Read up on xlr8yourmac.com before you start. While your at it moving the resisters you may as well try overclocking it a bit.

Also, it looks like that G4 has no L3 cache so it's not going to be as fast as you my think.. but still should be faster than a 400.
