burning a folder of pictures unto a CD

I have an iMac with superdrive and use OS X. I have a folder with pictures from my iPhoto on my desktop and I wish to transfer that folder unto a CD recordable disc. When I insert the CD, no icon appears on the desktop. Please tell me the error I am making and/or the proper steps to follow in order to get these pictures unto the CD. Thank you.

You might want to try burning the photos to the disk using iPhoto itself. As far as not seeing the CD see your other post on the issue.
