At an online shop I noticed two offers for RAM for the G5:

Kingston KVR400X64C3AK2/2G 2GB Kit DDR400 PC3200 Memory, and

Corsair TWINX2048-3200PT 2GB DDR400 XMS3200 Memory w/Platinum Heat Spreader

they are listed at $919 and $550, respectively. What on earth is the difference I cannot figure out, any ideas ? what am I missing ?

thx,
gio

Looks like the Kingston is a 'Kit'. As in, probably two 1GB DIMMs. Whereas the Corsair is one 2GB DIMM.

Actually the Corsair TWINX are all kits...hence the term "twin". Two 1GB DIMMs Matched pair just like the Kingstons, that are tested on dual channel PC's...no mention of any Mac compatibility, but they do "meet JEDEC specifications to 3200 standards" as required for G5 memory upgrades. They "should" work. Besides, they look cool

I'd be curious as to anyone's experience with using the Corsair XMS kit with their G5 as well!! Thinking of buying some myself (depending on when that 2nd revision G5 is released....*sigh*).

I do know that the Corsairs are much more prized than Kingston on the PC Mod/Gaming front. My guess on the pricing difference - the Kingston's are probably going to drop to Corsair rates soon.
