Will 168-PIN DIMM PC-133 RAM fit in a 350 MHz BW G3?
If not, does PC100 fit?

if PC133 (or PC100) is OK, can someone who uses it actually mention it in the post?

What exact specification suits to such a CPU?

Thanksa Lot (TAL)

AFAIK, the B/W G3 use the 168pin ram dimms you mention, both pc100 or pc133. Since pc100 is required, the faster pc133 is running just as well. I used both types in my B/W 350 without problems. Just make sure you don't get some cheap crappy ram which could cause some problems.

Yeah the super cheap stuff is usually high density and with either not work at all, or will work but you'll only see 1/2 of the DIMMs full capacity. So you probably wanna look for RAM that specifically says it works with Macs. But yeah B&W's take PC100, and PC133 is totally backward compatible.

Do you mean PC-133 works OK with a BW?
sure or just reard about it?

Before I spend any money in a RAM module, I'd like to be 100% sure that it works.

Thanks

Sure. It did for me and for others when I checked back then, and I guess one B/W is pretty much like another one.

So if you say 133 works in a BW G3, I will get some soon in deed.

Max DIMM size in a B&W is 256MB. There are other requirements like bit density, but I can seldom find them posted.

OK, so I should not put a 512MB module (which I was about to do...).

Well, according to specifications (macspeedzone) , the B/W can accept 1 gb of ram in total. divided by the four slots, that would naturally lead you to the 256mb limit per stick, I'd assume. (haven't heard the B/W would support the bigger ones, an it was not mentioned above either that the stick in question is a 512. sorry I forgot to ask beofre giving advice)

And Eriamjh is right, bit density does play a crucial role, hence my advice to avoid cheap ram, which uses less chips with higher density, thus allowing the mac to only see half the ram stick. (had the problem myself, but it got exchanged for a working ram stick easily)

Basically, a B&W will accept up to 256MB modules (PC100 or PC133), but a 256MB module must have both sides of the module covered in chips!! If only 1 side is covered, or if both sides only have like 2 chips on them, it's a high-density module and only 1/2 of it will be seen. Note that all PC100 modules will fit this description, while PC133 may be high or low density.

Correct. The largest individual DIMM the B&W (and Yikes! G4) will accept is 256MB.

Just ask for a 16-chips 256 PC 133 module (8 on both sides) as opposed to an 8-chips module which is basically what most budget rams are these days.

My Blue and White is picky. I have had problems installing from vendors who claim that thei ram (PC 133) is compatible with Blue and Whites. So just be careful and buy only those that says it will work with Macs.

The exact specs for B&W ram are as follows, (from the service manual):

3.3volt, unbuffered, 8byte, non parity, 168pin SDRAM, PC100, minimum speed 8ns, maximum capacity 256mb per slot X 4 slots = 1024mb

But I have 2 Kingston 256mb/PC100 sticks AND 2 256mb/PC133 chips from DataMemoryServices in my B&W and it all works great together
