I ordered a refurbished 17" FP iMac 5 days ago. It hasn't shipped yet. I am skeptical about the hardware upgrade rumors. The G4 1 ghz iMac is more than suitable for my needs. Currently using a Rev B Bondi iMac. No heavy duty application. General use. I don't believe even with a price drop, I could get as good a deal as this for $1299. Am I making a mistake by buying an "older" product?

Thanks.

no
never be scared about looming price drops/upgrades they are always around the corner, and you have to live in the now...thats just how it goes w/ computers.
I'm running an iMac 800Mhz 17" and i just upgraded it to 1 gig...i use it for Photoshop, iMovie, iTunes, mail, surfing, Garageband, Dreamweaver etc...and there is NO complaint here NONE AT ALL! sure the system slows down after being on for 20 days, but what system wouldn't

its perfect for you, invest in alittle ram (atleast 512) and Panther (if it is not installed) and the speed will be perfect for you.

So don't worry dude, you'll love it! its a mac! an iMac! so that means you'll love it

I think $1,299 is a good price for that machine. If you were paying $1,599 or something, I'd say you should wait, as the current 1.25GHz model will be marked down to that on closeout when new models are announced. But nobody knows when that will be, and given the iMac's rather leisurely revision schedule lately, it could be a few more months.

We have half a dozen of the 1GHz iMacs in my office, and they are really nice machines. Speedy enough for what they do, quiet and compact. They were upgrades from 450MHz G4 towers, and everyone is very happy with them. As SOLIDAge says, add RAM and Panther and you should be all set.

My girlfriend has the 15" 1Ghz model and she loves it. I had planned on upgrading the RAM, but she hasn't complained in the slightest about speed so that plan has all been but scrapped.

I never really got the chance to use an iMac before her's and they really are quite amazing designs and machines. You'll love it!

Thanks folks. I'm very familiar with Macs. Been a MacUser since 1987. So, just upgrading from my Rev B Bondi. Can't wait.
