OMFG is right.

Idiocy at its finest!
In the future, I want to get an Athlon 64 board and CPU with AGP support for a decent video card.

I use it mostly for Internet, ripping music/DVDs and pissing off my friend.

I put all the parts from the G5 into a box and gave it to my friend. He was rather happy. I think he is going to try to install them into his G3 - I hope he's successful.

This has been done before with previous Power Mac cases, I recall people modding Blue and White G3's and the original Graphite G4's by replacing their guts with PC equivilents.

Let the guy do what he wants, he knows what he's done with his Parents money.

I quite admire that he resisted modding the outside of the case, from most angles it does look like a normal G5 (until you look at the back panel or turn on the lights in the case).

The guy really did love the case, he just did not care much for the Mac OS or the PowerPC Architecture (he could have always installed Linux).

The absolute irony being though, that he said he'd only use it [his new machine] for surfing the web and ripping music, when the Mac could have dealt with that find straight out the box.

It's a bit of a waste really, as he could have gotten a single processor machine at almost half the price and still had a perfectly useable case. Why his parents thought to buy him a top of the range model is beyond me?

Wow, I guess he really showed his parents

It seems rather silly: He could have ebay'd the Dual G5 and used the proceeds to build the PC of his dreams.

It's cuz they've known for a while now that overclocking a machine by another 10% results in no perceptible improvement in real-world performance (e.g. when something takes 9ms instead of 10ms, only a computer can even measure that it took any more time than instantaneous). So just like hotrodders, they start modding things that do nothing for actual performance.

I agree that desecrating a G5 like that is... criminal. Especially since nothing he's doing on it couldn't be done better on the G5.

Jesus, that nearly caused me to vomit...

What has the world come to?! At the very worst, he could have sold that for ~$2300 AT LEAST and built a rather extreme PC.

I say its chances of being real are 40%. Meaning I think this is probably fake, but is entirely likely to be real...
By "fake," I don't mean that he didn't mod a PC into a G5 case. The photos prove that. I have a hard time imagining he was so dimwitted as to actually give away thousands of dollars' worth of G5 parts without realizing that the machine he built was a fraction of the speed and value of said parts.
Be happy.

If parental control is the same or worse than it was when I was a sixteen (16 years ago) he could have taken the 2x2 G5 back, swapped it for a 1.6, pocket the cash and throw a big ass party. I don't care that he modded the case but that he wasted a 2x2 to do it. This idiot could have pocketed $1000.

His friend should buy a refurb 1.6 and put the 2x2 parts in it. THEN attempt mod his old Mac with the 1.6 parts.

The fact that he didn't do that and destroyed the inside of the G5 to create that crap just confirmed to me that he's the stupidest person alive. May he never breed.

Thanks for pointing that out. I was doubting he was the stupidest person. But that sealed it.

One description come to mind....DipShizit.

Not only is that 'kid' apparently one of the most idiotic a@@h0|es on the planet. his modding skills are about the same as his intelligence. I mean, a micro atx board attached with glue, and a power supply stuck down with velcro? Blech! I too almost e-mailed him, but I know he would never get it. People like that scare me.

I love to read posts like this. The bravado, machismo and idiotic statements....
The anonymity of the web is a wonderful thing for some people.

Stupid or not, the guy did what he wanted with his THING.
It is a THING, after all, not a person or a pet. It’s ridiculous to get mad over this.

When my Mac becomes obsolete I'll give it to a friend or just throw it away, after all it’s just a tool.

When his parents find out he shredded a $3000 computer (and they'll find out eventually), I wouldn't want to be him that's for sure.

This kid is pretty stupid - he'll never get the computer he wants. First, he doesn't tell his parents he would prefer something else (imagine what kind of PC he could have gotten for the same amount of money). Second, I'm sure his parents wouldn't have been too upset he actually wanted something less expensive. Third, now his folks will keep buying him Macintosh programs & accessories, for which he'll have no use. And he'll be stuck using the same POS he's got now because he's too dumb to say something.

Of course, his friend makes out great. He gets basically a free dual 2.0GHz G5.

Such an idiot. He gave the guts of the G5 to a friend, but didn't have money for other things! My god, this guy is really incredibly stupid, I can't even type straight. Plus: he now got a slower (!) system! (An Athlon FX-51 would be open for a contest, but an Athlon XP 2200 is breakfast.)

This sure is one of the most worst things that has ever happened in the history of Mac. Saddly, this is true, the kid did in fact did that. He said he thought about selling it, but than he said his parents would be upset if he did because it means a lot to them to give him soemthing that expansive for christmas. WTF! how's selling it any different than ripping out all of its parts and put PC parts in them? Hell, I'm sure his parents would be happier if he sold it than to change it like that. This kid needs to be shot for this.

Hey ... it's the 00s .. you don't have to have responsibility any longer. Everyone is a victim, nobody is responsible for their own actions.
It simply wasn't "fair" that he didn't have an Athlon XP machine.

At least someone who can appreciate it ended up with the guts to the G5. Hopefully his friend is smart enough to get a G5 case on ebay or something and put it to good use.

I don't know what is worse, the fact that a G5, a top class piece of machinery, has been butchered to make that monstrosity, or the fact that the url contains the word 'tip'!? A tip for who, effing retards!

Who in their right mind would do a thing like that?

Actually. I take the retards comment back, as it's insulting to retards!

Seriously stupid though. At least he gives Apple their props about the case design (the best I've ever seen...)

Maybe we can get the RIAA on this kid, track him down and tell his parents.

If I would give a educated guess on who this moron is.... Could it be Jack Osbourne? He fits the description unless you count in that he is propably to stupid to put together an PC.

It sounds as if his parents at least care a little bit about him. They spent $3000 on a computer. One would assume that to spend that amount of money when cheaper alternatives are available that they had to do a good amount of research purchased what they felt was best for him.

If this is true (and I'm pretty certain that it's not) then the kid has serious issues.

What I find amazing about this dummies little stunt is that it has managed to bring the G5 into the eyes of more PC users than any Apple advertisement has done.

Amazing.

If you looked in that site's forums you might see people are talking about it being a hoax. The processor in their does not appear to be an athelon XP.

Oh man you people are harsh,

The kid got a present, he did what he wanted to do with it and to see the number of posts wanting to beat him, work him over with a 2x4, is a little inapproporate.

Its a computer for crying out lot, he wanted a pc and for whatever reason he felt he could not sell it or tell his parents it was the wrong platform.

I'm not agreeing with what he did, The G5 is an awesome machine but lighten up its his to do with what he wants.

Again ... I don't think this is real, but assuming it is then I think the kids parents would very much disagree with your point of view on this topic.
