An iMac users question
If u order the g4 with a superdrive can you later add a combo drive to the other bay or are you forced to fork out 135+$ for their combo drive?

It would appear as though no one understood my moderately vague question!
Can you make the second bay drive door flip down without trashing the front of the case? and second does OSX easily recognize 3rd party internal drives?
Thanks for any assistance given!

You can certainly install a third party cd burner in the second optical bay. It is not too difficult to do; you merely remove the drive bay from the back and install the drive. There are instructions on how to do it on Apple's site I believe (they might even be included with the manual).

The subject of which third party drives would be supported is a different story. www.xlr8yourmac.com has user databases concerning such things, so I would search around over there. One necessary feature of any drive you install is that the front panel of the drawer must be removable in order to work with the MDD's drive door.

I have the dual 1.0 MDD and added a 52x32x52 Lite-on cdrw to my lower bay and it was very easy. xlr8yourmac provided me with a few tips like how to slide the face of the tray off so it doesn't hit the rounded edges of the drive door and better drivers, but apple has added its own drivers since panther I think so the old hacked drivers aren't necessary anymore. PM me with questions, its a great machine with lots of expandibility.
