Hi everybody! I'm new to posting and i would appreciate any help on this matter.
I just upgraded my system to a G5 1.8 DP running 10.3.2 and a 20" Apple Cinema Display and I wanted to do a backup copy of a DVD film which I legally own on a DVD-RW.
So I used DVDBackup to rip the DVD to the hard drive and once there I used DVD2oneX to compress just the film to a size that can fit on a single DVD.
After this process if I use the Apple DVD Player I can play the movie by manually opening the Video_TS folder.
So now I used Toast 6 Titanium version 6.0.3 to burn the movie to the DVD by selecting the Video window and choosing the DVD-Video option plus Pal and High video quality ( Up to here I had thoroughly tested this process on my old iMac G4 800 with superdrive and I had a 100% success ). But now on the G5 while Toast is encoding the DVD prior to burn it all I get is either of this two error messages:
*VTS_01_1 Could not record the disc because of a Mac OS error. Result code = - 18775
or
*VTS_01_1 Could not record the disc because there is a problem with the source material. Result code = - 18774
Can someone tell me why this is happening?
After reading some forums I discovered that people were burning DVD's using the Data window on Toast and selecting DVD-ROM (UDF) and i finally was successfull in burning the DVD just to find out that the superdrive WILL NOT PLAY the burned DVD. After inserting it DVD Player will open but the movie does not start and if you press play or any other button all you get is a "not permitted" message or if you try to manually open the VTS folder you get this other error:
*DVD Player encountered a system error. Could not detect a valid media file. [-70025]
This DVD will play on my PS2 and on my housemate DVD player and iMac without a problem.
I have this other DVD that I had burned on my old iMac following the first method described earlier and worked on every machine I had tried it on but on the G5 (same errors as with the other one).
So here I am not knowing what is wrong with this PIONEER DVR-106D. HELP!!!
To make things look even odder if you launch Disk Utility and insert the DVD it shows there is nothig wrong with it. And if I create an image of the DVD and save it in the HD I am able to play the movie by opening the image and DVD Player.
PLEASE HELP IS NEEDED TO UNDERSTAND WHY ALL THIS IS HAPPENING. THANKS.

I got a DVD like that yesterday.
It was a DVD+R made on a PC. Neither my dual G5 Superdrive, nor my 15" Powerbook Combo Drive would play it. Same "not permitted" display after DVD Player popped open.
Played fine on my Dell Laptop.
I chalked my experience up to DVD+R?

ummm, I do a LOT of DVD Recompression, though I use DVDRemaster: It's faster, and better quality, and has more responsive developers.
that said, I have never burned a DVD with the "DVD-Video" setting.
I always use data>DVD-ROM (UDF)
and then name the disc with all caps, _ for spaces, drag the VIDEO_TS folder onto the disc, and then create an empty AUDIO_TS folder. DVDRemaster makes this folder heirarchy for you, so its more or less a drag/drop and toast it.
Also, be sure that there are no .DS_Store files anywhere.
